What an energetic, fun dog is Dutchess. This American Bulldog mix was a pleasure to play with. The second I walked into his “run free” area, she leaped to me, ready to play. Dutchess is full of spirit, so she is looking for an active home. She is dog-friendly and good with kids. I personally would recommend older children as she is a bit high strung due to her past, and doesn’t know her strength. Dutchess came to JARM with bad skin issues and was slightly heartworm positive (they are using the slow kill method with Heartgard each month). She spent her life on a chain in the back yard, so she loves her freedom to play and run when she has the opportunity. I would not recommend her with cats, however, as she is known to be cat aggressive.
Dutchess has been living at Jasper Animal Rescue Mission since February of 2017. She is 4 1/2 years old and was surrendered to animal control due to someone who was not being able to take care of her sufficiently. She is a happy dog who deserves a loving and active home with a family who will take care of her the way she will take care of them.
Walking into the cat room of JARM kittens were playing together and jumping around. I looked up to see Yin-Yin lying on top of the cabinets, in her bed, playing the “Queen of the Room.” I did get a nice video of her on her throne until she heard a can of wet food being opened. Immediately she leaped down following the delicious aroma of her lunch.
She seems to be the kitty who gets overlooked because she is so chill. I can just see her lying on someone’s lap watching tv while being rubbed. She is somewhat shy and quiet but is as sweet as can be. She wants a quiet home without dogs and prefers older, calm cats who won’t bother her. She just wants a lap to sit on and a kitty tower to climb.
Yin-Yin is two years old and has been living at JARM since April of 2017 and was surrendered by her owner because they had too many other animals.

Leia is a sweet momma who has been at PAL since April 2017. She came to Palmetto Animal League with her four kittens who are now healthy and ready for adoption as well. She is a typical curious cat when it comes to people, but after a quick sniff, she is ready for chin scratches and affection. When I walked in to see her, she immediately stood up from lying in her bed, to see who entered the room. As I walked up to her, she sniffed cautiously, reluctant to let me reach in and pet her. After a few minutes of hanging around the room, she began to warm up to me. I was given a cuddly rub myself against my arm letting me know it was ok to pet her. This 1-year old kitty loves the finer things in life, including a sunny window seat and a comfy bed.
Frappe is the type of dog you want to continue coming around to build a lasting relationship. She is cautious and a little slow to trust, not in a fearful way, she just needs some time to get to know you. Frappe lived at PAL as a puppy and was adopted four years ago. Sadly, she was recently returned and surrendered by the owners because of a change in their living situation.
I walked into her play area to take a closer look at her beautiful markings and play a little. She maintained her distance, enough that I could pet her, but far enough away that she felt comfortable. Speaking with the staff at PAL, they all had nice things to say about Frappe; she just needs to develop familiarity with her new owners. If you are willing to adopt a dog and build a trust relationship, Frappe is your best choice. While she is cautious, she is extremely loving so that the relationship building process will be well worth the time and effort. She is easy to get along with, and even cats enjoy her company. She enjoys taking walks and loves to cuddle.
